In the ultimate analysis the nutritional problem in India forms part of a large complex in which important factors are population growth, insufficient production and considerable wastage. In practice, however, insufficiency of calories has always been associated with insufficiency of proteins. Even when calories are adequate but proteins insufficient, nutritional disorders arise.
