Among five varieties of Sorghum bicolor subjected to gamma irradiation and treatment with ethyl methanesulphonate, sensitivity in the M1 (in terms of germination and survival) indicated that the rabi variety RCR408 was highly sensitive while the kharif variety 302 was fairly resistant. M2 progenies of RCR408 showed a higher frequency of both chlorophyll and viable mutations than those of the kharif variety 148. Differences in mutation frequencies are attributed to differences in seed size and genetic constitution
