Samples of Sweet Sudan 59-3 grass, a hybrid of Sorghum vulgare X S. sudanensis, not fertilised or given ammonium sulphate or farmyard manure or both, were taken at weekly intervals in Rajasthan from the date of 70% germination to 30 days of growth, and samples were also taken at different times during the same day, and hydrocyanic acid (HCN) content was estimated. In all the groups HCN content was most at the 7th day of full germination, it gradually decreased from day 14 to day 21 and had almost disappeared by day 30. Diurnal variation showed greatest HCN content at 1500 h, the brightest part of the day
