Short-season hybrids and varieties, flowering in 58-70 days, generally give higher yields than those of long-season ones, may be ratooned to give a second crop in one growing season or used in multiple cropping programmes. Lines are listed which are (1) resistant to Sclerospora, Atherigona and Striga, (2) suitable for cultivation in several Indian States during the wet and dry seasons, and (3) suitable for cultivation in the summer with irrigation
