From hatching until 28 days old chickens were given 12 diets with soya bean oilmeal 32% and with sorghum or wheat or maize at about 50%; each diet was supplemented with DL-methionine at 0, 0.075, 0.150 or 0.225%. Wheat and maize supported more rapid weight gains and lower feed:gain ratios than did sorghum, regardless of added methionine. A response in rate of gain and feed:gain ratio was obtained with the added levels of methionine with each of the 3 grains
